Tool 11

1. What are your favorite tools you now have in your personal technology toolbox? Briefly describe a particular activity that you will plan for your students using at least one of these new tools.
As a beginner with technology I've used Brain Pop extensively and will continue to do so.  I also am becoming more proficient  with integrating Discovery Ed with relevancy and objectives to make lessons more rigorous and engaging.

2. How have you transformed your thinking about the learning that will take place in your classroom? How has your vision for your classroom changed? Are you going to need to make any changes to your classroom to accommodate the 21st Century learner?
I desperately must focus on bring technology into the classroom. I am fortunate to have IPads and six notebooks in my room for student usage. So, using these tools needs to become automatic and authentic on a daily basis.To make a 21st Century classroom I must embrace and utilize the extensive support system SBISD has available to all teachers and students.

3. Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
I actually found myself thinking about how much fun using the tools is. Of course the possibilites are endless. The tools are magnificent for focusing on the higher levels of interpreting and analyzing learning in Blooms Taxonomy. The knowledge to use technology is all available for me. I need to intentionally make specific goals for me as a teacher in becoming more adventurous and comfortable using technology.

Tool 10

Three things I think students need to know:
1. Take time to completely go through Brain Pop emphasizing teacher expectations for internet safety and etiquette.
2. We can create a chart with our classroom internet and safety etiquette rules that EVERYONE would have to buy into.
3. Creative Commons will teach about licenses to mark creative works of others for student research.

One resource I plan to use instructionally is BRAIN's user friendly for emphasizing internet safety and privacy matters at a kid level.

I will teach the idea of digital citizenship to my students using the Atomic Learning Workshop called Touching on Netiquette and Avoiding Plagiarism.

Tool 9

  1. Why do you think it is important to tie the technology to the objectives?  Teachers have very limited time to teach the objectives each year. Using the technological devices available will enhance and broaden their learning.
  2. Why should we hold students accountable for the stations/centers?Students should be held accountable for their learning...which naturally would include any assignment a teacher makes.
  3. Visit 2 of the applicable links to interactive websites for your content/grade level. Which sites did you like. TUTPUP is an engaging way for students to practice specific skills in all subject matter. With entertaining simulations students can independently work on specific content they're deficient in. How could you use them as stations? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? The student is accountable as they're required to turn in a related product. They can turn in a graded assessment if you create a rubric the student can follow.
  4. List two to three apps you found for the iPod Touch/iPad that you can use in your classroom. What do you see that station looking like? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations?As students attend their Science Center the Earthquakes app will simulate the stages envolved when an earthquake erupts. They can then write the correlation of how this applies to weathering/erosion/and deposition. Another app is "Jumbo Calculator" which would be a wonderful way for students to check their math calculations. It will be very engaging for the student.
  5. What about other ways to use the iPod Touch/iPad? Share another way you can see your students using the device as a station. When work is completed and free time arises it would be wonderful for student fluency to use the app "I Books" which are e-readers. They are reading for enjoyment and at the same time becoming more fluent readers.

How to set up an iTunes account
I learned how to set up and iTunes account and how to sync my IPad to my lap top.

Learning how to manage the devices is key. Making sure we embrace the new technology isn't supposed tto inhibit usage of our technical plethera of devices. I require students to include their website addresses on assignments requiring research.
The more you learn, the better familiar you are with tools. Also familiarize yourself with Mac Apps...their are fabulous Mac Apps comprable to class projects and tools that can generare incredible learning in the classroom. 

Tool 7

  1. There is an amazing amount of collaboration for teachers and classrooms to interface learning. Opening my classroom to other classrooms around the globe will enhance learning and certainly "raise the bar" for students.
  2. Post the following about the project:
    1. TLW create a google spreadsheet using student measurements from both a 3rd and 5th grade class to tally their personal physical growth throughout the year. Data will be used that coincides with math objectives throughout the years curriculum objectives such as graphing word problems and comparing data between classes.
    2. We plan to implement the project with the opening of the school year in September and will continue charting growth and data as the year progresses.
    3. We plan to use Google Forms and Google Spreadsheets.
    4. We will measure student heighth, width (with arms extended), and shoe size.
    5. My 5th grade classroom will collaborate and share with Mrs. Jennifer Smith's 3rd grade classroom. This should enlighten their understanding of measurement in a very personal and engaging way.

Tool 6

I understand that making an account for my students to access Edmoto will allow them to make comments and respond to lessons.  I created a personal profile so... I'm ready to get started:)

Tool #5

Learning to use Make Beliefs was alot of fun. It's not often I refer to anything I create on the web as fun!

Creating poems will be much more engaging for students using Wordle. The layout makes poetry come to life on a page.
Unfortunately, after spending 11/2 hours on my own comic strip. . . I LOST IT:(

As a 5th grade teacher I really need to learn how to navigate Google Apps because I will love it for use during teaching.

Tool #4

Obviously using the Google Apps tools for assessments allows students to become proficient in answering all types of questions. Using essay style questioning along with multiple choice questioning will strengthen student communication skills. Of course it will enhance as preparation for the STAAR test as well.

Tool #3

I would use this video when exposing students to the contributions different scientists have made. Madam Curie and her husband worked together for years to discover the power of radium and polenium for healing disease.
I utilize YOUTube, Discovery Ed., and EduSmart for videos. These enhance the chIildrens understanding because they are oriented for elementary students. I learned that you are permitted to make one copy of sources for each student. I know there are copyright laws that limit how you use materials correctly. I will be able to use Dropbox in my classroom to share lessons, power points, and videos with my students.

Tool #2

I just looked atMrs. Cassidy's Classroom Blog and Pinterest. I saw how there are infinite ideas about anything in the classroom and for all curriculum areas. This is wonderful with creative ideas from others. They motivated me to try because they are shared in such a user-friendly manner. I signed up to belong to the Pinterest Community and am anxious to start using it and sharing these ideas with my team mates as well. This is creating a desire within me to look at more blogs I can relate to and enjoy.
